A loyal friend of Winoa Larocque, Vivianne is an Excubitor of the 5th Directorate in Bastion. Although generally quiet, she knows more than she lets on, and her friends respect her opinion - partially out of fear.
Personality[]

Where Astrid is affable and Winoa straight-forward, Vivianne calmly guides the two in matters of tact. She is extremely aware of the world around her. Despite often declining to speak, Vivianne holds very strong opinions. If provoked or annoyed, she tends to step in and correct the fault with cool logic and a slightly biting tone. More than once, she has gotten into a fight with Winoa (although they always make up with the help of Astrid).
Vivianne holds a pragmatic mindset. As a result, she accepted the harsh training of Bastion more readily than the other two in order to improve herself (and so is technically the most adept at using her ability out of them). To her, life can be carefully planned out in order to prepare for the worst while also enjoying the best. On the few missions she has had so far, Vivianne often stands out above her peers as an efficient yet careful strategist.
History[]
Vivianne's family never really had enough, but they did have each other. Life was a struggle each day, and her parents worked long shifts at day and night to care for her. However, they were happy together and managed to secure her a minor education. However, it wasn't enough for her to secure a well-paying job, and so she decided to join the military instead to help her parents pay for their living standards. Against their pleas, she was determined to help the ones who had given up so much for her.
Unwittingly, she was recruited into Bastion. Although the thought of fighting supernatural evil frightened her, the knowledge that her work was protecting and providing for those she loved motivated her to give the job her all.
Ability[]

She has the ability to summon conceptual swords from the sky that strike an opponent's shadow. If successful, the opponent's shadow is "pinned" and cannot move their body. The swords do not cause any physical harm, and simply pass through solid objects until they reach the ground. A successful pin will last 30 seconds against an average human being. She can generate multiple swords to linearly increase the duration and strength of the pin.
Relationships[]
- Astrid Bayard and Winoa Larocque: Although they seem badly paired, she actually finds their company comfortable. They hold many qualities that she herself wishes she has, and despite their disagreements, Vivianne does truly see them as friends. She usually looks out for them, albeit quite often with exasperation.
